He makes love sound like a disorder of the ego. What about the growth of the soul through love, compassion, selflessness which can only be exchanged when in relationship with another? How does the ego feel about those, Ekhart?

This is like can't win for losing..it is best to be by yourself..You can't follow your feelings..if you are alone people think you are not whole if you get into a relationship with someone you feel good about but no passion people say you settled..just be by yourself.

Because it satisfies a deep-seated pattern to reach out for something unobtainable. Because we are loving from ego and need and not from still love that just IS. When you feel whole without someone you are best placed to be met..
